Shifting Ground — Studio Release — 2026

Shifting Ground brings together a new body of paintings developed following time spent in North East Tasmania and the Northern Rivers of New South Wales earlier this year.

Across two very different landscapes, I found myself drawn to shifting light, changing weather, atmosphere and the rhythms of place. Rather than directly depicting particular places, these paintings explore what remains once I’ve left them: fragments of colour, texture, shape and form carried through visual memory.

A rich, earthy palette of burgundy, terracotta, indigo and ochre moves through the series, while forms shift between the recognisable and the abstract.

Shifting Ground marks a transitional point in my practice, where memory, material and intuition are beginning to play an increasingly significant role in the way I paint.

These works are less about recording where I have been, and more about what a place leaves behind.
